Guru Indian Restaurant
Echegaray St. 21, Madrid 28014
I have had the luck that my dad always took me to the best places to eat. He loved food since he was born and that love is what has make him how hes now. He has traveled and tried every food you could imagine, he has judged it and now hes in the position where if he said something about any food, i will believe him, no matter what it is. I hope in a not very far future ill be able to taste food as he does, knowing differentiate between best and worse, and all its refinements.
So since I was really little I have been going to this small Indian restaurant with dark red walls that make you feel prisioned inside but with the best Indian food in all Madrid.
So as I was saying, the atmosphere is not the best. It is a small place, with the tables really close to each other and although the staff try to make it look elegant by putting ornaments here and there and dressing with special costumes, doesnt really work that way. But is still a cute place with an interesting Indian decoration.
The red dark carpet that cover all over the walls and the fact that the place doesnt have a lot of windows makes it even tighter, but they have work with that to make you feel pressed, but comfortable, with candles, hanging lamps and that smell of incense and that Eastern sound in the far background that makes you travel to that indian environment they want you to feel.
Some problems with have had to deal with in our visits there is when we find the waiter doesnt understand enough good our language to even get our order. That removes the restaurant part of its quality but well, things you have to deal with.
And even with that the service is good and very polite. Not long waiting for the arrive of your orders at the table and little indian snacks while your waiting keeps you entertaining.
Indian meals usually work with a main meat such as chicken or lamb in a sauce to taste, with many spices and a very Eastern flavor. accompanied with rice or other cereal, and helped with a special flat bread called Nam.
Because of I have been going there all my life I have my favourite dishes I will share with you:

CHICKEN TIKKA MASALLA
This chunks of chicken are marinated in spices and yogurt and served after baked in a masala sauce. The sauce usually includes tomatoes, frequently as puree, various spices and coconut cream that gives the dish that sweet taste and that creamy texture.
Combined with PILAU RICE
Combined with PILAU RICE
This accompany rice is common to be part of the dishes of all the Easterm zone and part of asia. Boiled in a seasoned broth, comes out ready to enjoy with the touch of that stock. Not very tasty, helps the main meat in its roll.
And for last, THE PLAIN OR CHEESE NAN have become my favourite to drive both previous dishes together.

This squashed bread keeps its top spongy while a bit harder its base. Perfect to fit between his sides part of the meet and part of the rice as a spoons work, but adding its cheese or just taste to bread to the meal. Besides indian culture used to eat with their hands, this nan bread just makes it cleaner for people that doesnt want to get that dirty with their food.
After this whole meal toguether you cant almost even get up because of the heavy it goes into your stomach. Big portions and such yummy food makes you not be able to left anything to waste! Also the fact that it has a really good price –for three whole meals of one meat, one rice and one bread plus drinks, about 65 Euros (80 dolars) and leaves you satisfied.
